Michael F. Smith was born on October 2, 1949. Michael attended elementary, middle and high school in Plant City, Florida. While in high school, Michael excelled in sports and was named captain of the basketball team. When he was a senior, Plant City High won the state championship. Michael was named MVP of the tournament, captain of the All-Star team, and captain and MVP of the North-South All Stars. Michael attended St. Leo College in Florida on a full basketball scholarship. After college, Michael married his high school sweetheart, Sandra.

Michael has been in the insurance business for over thirty years, primarily in the healthcare field. His practice consists of payroll administration, human resources, plan design, and administration for self-funded and fully insured benefit programs. Michael also works with Innovation HR & Benefits. In addition to the insurance industry, Michael has an active interest in a hotel in St. Petersburg Beach where he is a partner. He serves on the board of directors for the management company and has served as the president of the condominium association for the past twenty years.

Michael, like his father, was initiated into Plant City Lodge #1727 on January 22, 1979. Upon his initiation, Michael immediately became active in Lodge activities and committees.
